Description

Wisteria (Hygrophila Difformis)

Hygrophila Difformis, also known as Water Wisteria or Synnema Triflorum, originates from India and Thailand. It produces finely branched leaves that have a delicate appearance and are unusually and irregularly shaped. Under good conditions, Wisteria will grow fast and the plant is prized in the aquarium hobby for its ability to quickly absorb excess nutrients from the water column, keeping your aquarium clean of pollutants and tank inhabitants healthy.

Live aquarium plants like Wisteria provide numerous benefits to the aquarium. They look beautiful but also produce oxygen and remove harmful compounds from the tank’s water, ensuring a healthy environment for fish, shrimp, snails, and even beneficial bacteria. They also provide shelter, spawning surfaces for fish, and prevent algae.

Care & Maintenance for Wisteria

This unusual aquarium plant's leaf shape is highly influenced by aquarium water temperature and lighting. At lower temperatures, the plant will produce smaller and thicker leaves but at higher temperatures, the leaves will grow larger and more divided. In addition at lower intensity lighting, the plant's lower leaves may drop off and the spacing between the leaves will increase. At higher intensity lighting, the plant will appear more compact.

  • Minimum Lighting Required: Medium
  • Temperature Range: 71-86°F
  • Tank Placement: Background

Hygrophila Difformis must be provided with adequate space to thrive. It looks best when planted in well-spaced groups of four to six stems. The plant can be propagated from cuttings or by side shoots. When cutting or trimming the plant, use sharp scissors like our aquascaping curved scissors.

Wisteria is also available as potted.

I’m a beginner and haven’t ordered live plants before. I thought the wisteria arrived in perfect condition, and the enclosed instructions were so helpful! It’s been a couple weeks, and they are thriving. My betta loves to lay in them, so he says Modern Aquarium is the best!
