Rotala Wallichii
Rotala Wallichii, sometimes referred to as Whorly Rotala, originates from Southeast Asia. It exhibits reddish to brown to pink color delicate or needle-like looking leaves. This plant looks best when planted in groups. It can be used both as a midground or background plant.
Caring For Rotala Wallichii
R. Wallichii grows fast but may need regular trimmings to keep it nice and tidy. The plants need moderate to high lighting and will appreciate regular fertilization. When kept under good conditions and planted in groups, this plant will provide spectacular and contrasting pinkish/reddish background to your aquarium.
- Minimum Lighting Required: Moderate
- Temperature Range: 64-82°F
- Tank Placement: Midground or Background
Rotala Wallichii does not require CO2 supplementation or specially formulated substrate. However, as is true with most plants, the addition of CO2 and planting it in a nutrient-rich substrate such as Rio Escuro will boost its growth considerably.

I didn't have much expectations for this plant since it seemed tiny and fragile, however, was I ever wrong. Within 4 days, they started sprouting roots and the stems were visibly longer and reaching towards the aquarium light. Can't wait to see this develop and flourish.

Thriving!
Posted by Lauren on 18 May 2023After a month, my rotala wallichii is thriving in the midground of my tank. Out of all of the plants that I received, this is one of the plants that is thriving the most. I was worried at the beginning because none of the plants had any roots and were just individual stems of the plant, but the plant has multiplied quite rapidly! My rotala did not come with any red on the plant, but as a month has passed, the ends of each stem are a redish-purple color and quite pretty! Very very easy to take care of and definitely recommend for other beginners.
