Java Moss (Vesicularia Dubyana)
Vesicularia Dubyana, commonly known as Java Moss, originates from India. It is an adaptable and versatile plant that can be used in various ways in your aquarium. For example, Java Moss can be used as a foreground plant placed among the bases of large stem plants attached to rocks, wood or just left on its own. The plant will attach to any surface and will spread in all directions. Java Moss uses rhizoids to attach itself to surfaces l. ike rocks or driftwood. Since it has no roots that burrow themselves in gravel or substrate, Java Moss absorbs excess nutrients from the water column, contributing to a healthier environment for your tank inhabitants. It is a hardy plant and regular fertilization will increase its rate of growth. Java Moss is ideal in aquariums housing breeding or small fish or fry.
Care Guide for Java Moss
Java Moss is one of the least demanding aquatic plants in the hobby. It does not have any special water quality requirements, will grow in low light conditions, and does not require fertilization. However, if provided with more intense light and some fertilization, Java Moss will grow faster. Java Moss can be used in cold water tanks.

You can let your moss grow over the bottom of the tank, or you can tie it to wood or rocks using scaper's glue or cotton thread. Java Moss looks particularly attractive when tied to branches or rocks, giving the aquarium a natural look.

Posted by Jacob W. on 7 Sep 2023Second time ordering from modern aquarium and was satisfied with my purchase. This time I purchased Some Java Moss and it wasn't vibrant green like in the picture. Little disappointed in that aspect and to top it off was very dirty, not sure if that's normal for java moss though but more importantly it mostly it went from 50% brown to 95% brown... Been a week give or take and it looks pretty dead. Not sure if that's also normal. Wondering if I should wait to see if it bounces back or trash it and buy more from somewhere else. Bright side no hitch hikers were on it.

Posted by Chris on 9 Jun 2022Bought the quarter pound of java moss. It's definitely a lot of moss! Wasn't in the best of health when it comes in, but if you spread it out in the tank, the vast majority comes back green and healthy.
