Description
Java Fern Narrow (Microsorium Pteropus)
Microsorium Pteropus, commonly known as Java Fern, originates from Southeast Asia. Java Fern is a very popular plant and not surprisingly so because it is very versatile and easy to keep. The roots of Java Fern are designed to attach to hard surfaces such as rocks and wood. In aquariums, the plant should also be attached to rocks, wood or other hard surfaces such as decorations or 3-D backgrounds.
This plant will do well even in tanks with aggressive fish because its leaves are not palatable to most of them. The plant can grow up to 10 inches long and can be used in mid to background.
Caring For Java Fern
Java Fern will easily adapt to most aquarium conditions and does not require high lightning. It is a rather slow growing plant and older leaves, when they become too crinkled and blackened, should be trimmed or removed.
- Minimum Lighting Required: Low to Moderate
- Temperature Range: 59-83°F
- Tank Placement: Midground or Background
Java Fern is one of the easiest plants to start with. The plant should adjust to the new environment very quickly.
