Description
Banana Plant (Nymphoides Aquatica)
Banana Plant (Nymphoides Aquatica) originates from the Southern United States. This is an interesting plant and owes its unusual name due to its banana-shaped roots that are used by the plant to store nutrients. Banana Plant produces beautiful olive-green to reddish, heart-shaped leaves on short stalks. In shallow aquariums, the leaves may reach the surface of the water and may grow as large as six inches.
Care Guide For Banana Plant
The plant is easy to care for, does not require strong light or a lot of fertilization. Banana Plant's "roots" should not be buried in the substrate. Instead, place the plant on the substrate or just press it in lightly, and in time the plant will produce normal roots, attaching itself to the substrate.
- Minimum Lighting Required: Low
- Temperature Range: 68-80°F
- Tank Placement: Midground
After the plant produces leaves, and if grown in good conditions, Banana Plant will propagate by adventitious plantlets and may produce white flowers. The best placement for Banana Plant is in the midground or background of the aquarium.

Very cute little plants! Cant wait until they get big, are growing very quick in my low tech tank

Slow grower
Just rest them in the spot you want them and wait....for the roots to grow and anchor them in place. It's been about 3 weeks and the roots are just getting into the substrate.

Banana Plant
So it’s super cute first off. It came very healthy and is thriving easily. Growing daily starting immediately. Also the easiest thing to plant. it doesn’t float. just stick is gently into the substrate where you want it.

Green bananas
Plants arrived healthy and each had a new leaf unfurl within two days of adding to the aquarium. Very pleased.
